Nitrogen your crop can use the day it goes down.
Phytamin® Pure and Phytamin® Jumpstart deliver plant-available nitrogen from the moment of application — not weeks later, once soil microbes finish mineralizing it. That single difference is what lets a grower actually control a nitrogen program instead of just guessing at it.
Most organic nitrogen sources make you wait — and waiting means guessing.
Composts, manures, meals, and many organic liquid fertilizers carry nitrogen in organic forms that soil microbes have to break down before a root can take any of it up. That mineralization process depends on soil temperature, moisture, and biology — all of which change week to week and field to field.
The practical result: a grower applies nitrogen on a calendar, then finds out weeks later — at tissue sampling, or worse, at harvest — whether the crop actually got what it needed at the time it needed it.
Why timing gaps matter
Peak crop nitrogen demand is a narrow window. Nitrogen that becomes available before or after that window is nitrogen that's either lost to leaching and volatilization, or arrives too late to do the plant any good at the growth stage that determines yield and quality.
A biological nitrogen conversion process, engineered to skip the wait.
Natural Ammonia Technology (US Patent 11,518,720) is COFI's proprietary process for producing ammonia-form nitrogen from natural inputs. Because the nitrogen is already in ammonia form when it's applied, there's no lag while soil organisms mineralize organic matter — the plant has access to it immediately.

Ammonia-Form Nitrogen
Stable, plant-available nitrogen — not organic-bound nitrogen awaiting mineralization
Phytamin® Pure / Jumpstart
Applied in-season with predictable, day-of-application availability
Phytamin® Pure 5-0-0
Ammonia-derived nitrogen built for precise, plant-available in-season feeding — the base tool for controlling a nitrogen program on your own schedule rather than the soil's schedule.
Phytamin® Jumpstart 4-1-1
Formulated to push plant-available nitrogen and early nutrition to the crop right when it's needed to establish strong early growth, without a mineralization lag.
Day-of-application availability turns nitrogen management into a precision tool.
When nitrogen is plant-available the moment it's applied, a grower can time it to growth stage instead of to a mineralization estimate. That's the difference between a nitrogen program you're managing and one you're hoping works out.
Split applications that mean something
Because availability is immediate, split or spoon-fed applications can be matched to actual crop demand curves at each growth stage, rather than front-loaded and hoped for.
Less nitrogen sitting in the soil unused
Nitrogen applied close to the point of uptake spends less time exposed to leaching and volatilization pathways than nitrogen waiting on microbial breakdown.
Fewer surprises at tissue sampling
A grower working with a plant-available source can correct course within the season instead of discovering a shortfall after the growth stage has already passed.
Matching nitrogen timing to crop demand is a documented yield and quality lever.
This is well established in agronomic research across multiple crops — the pattern holds regardless of nitrogen source: when nitrogen supply is synchronized with the crop's actual demand curve, both yield and crop quality respond.
These studies did not evaluate Phytamin® products directly. They demonstrate the agronomic value of matching nitrogen availability to crop demand — the same management advantage Natural Ammonia Technology is designed to provide.
Field trials on transplanted rice found that adding a nitrogen topdressing timed to the flowering stage — on top of an early-season base application — increased rough rice yield and raised grain protein content compared with applying all nitrogen before flowering. Research on corn shows the same pattern: split, demand-matched nitrogen timing improves grain yield and nitrogen use efficiency compared with a single early or fall application.
A global meta-analysis of tomato nitrogen research found that nitrogen supply improves both yield and fruit quality together, though the size of that benefit depends heavily on getting rate and timing matched to the crop's actual environment rather than applying a flat rate. Field studies on fresh-market tomato point the same direction: split nitrogen timed to fruit set, rather than a single preplant dose, improved fruit set and yield outcomes.

The same precision that builds yield and quality also protects storage performance.
Postharvest research consistently connects how nitrogen is managed in the field to how a crop holds up after it's picked. Two patterns show up across crops:
Excess or poorly timed nitrogen can shorten shelf life
A controlled study on fresh-cut celery found that nitrogen fertilization rate and source affected postharvest visual and nutritional quality during storage, and noted that excess nitrogen fertilization is linked to nitrate accumulation that can work against shelf life and quality in raw and minimally processed vegetables.
Controlled, well-timed nitrogen supports firmness and storability
Published research specifically links nitrogen nutrition to fruit firmness, quality, and shelf life in strawberries. Separate research also shows that controlled nitrogen fertilization — paired with good cultural practices — can improve apple quality and storability. A broader review of greenhouse tomato, cucumber, and pepper production likewise found that nitrogen and nutrient management through fertigation can influence fruit composition and postharvest stability.
Separate ISHS-published field research on lettuce also found that nitrogen fertilization rate during growth measurably affects postharvest quality outcomes at harvest. The throughline across this research base is control: nitrogen delivered at the right rate, at the right time, relative to crop demand is what protects both what you harvest and how long it lasts afterward — which is exactly the lever that day-of-application availability puts in a grower's hands.
