Our Commitment to Food Safety
California Organic Fertilizers (COFI) operates under a third-party designed Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) program. All personnel are trained by a certified third party and tested on their knowledge before receiving certification.
At every stage of our manufacturing process, we monitor temperature, moisture, and pH levels in accordance with the HACCP plan. Each 24-ton production run is tested for pathogens, and all raw materials are tracked by lot number. This system allows us to issue a recall for any product associated with a specific raw material within three hours—though we have never needed to initiate one.
BioSecure® - Our Proprietary Pathogen Control Program
Even with a HACCP program and rigorous testing, our management knew we could do more. We began conducting inoculation challenges in a microbiological lab, and our goal was achieved: products deliberately contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, Listeria, EHEC, and Salmonella were found free of pathogens within 24 hours. This proprietary process is now known as BioSecure®.
